The ibex lives in the high mountains above the timberline. Except for small populations in the northern Italian Alps and in the Gran Paradiso massif the ibex had almost become extinct. Through a successful reintroduction after 1945 in Switzerland and the Tyrol, the ibex population increased significantly. Today, the preservation of this magnificent species is considered to be assured. Their splendid horns are never shed.
The unique enclosure in Steinwasen Park with its naturally steep, rugged, rocky terrain provides these excellent "climbing artists" an ideal ground and to our visitors an indescribable adventure in nature.
